About Billy
Billy is the lovable character depicted on the book cover and in promotional
materials for the
marketing book,
Mommy,
Where Do Customers Come From?. Billy is also mentioned throughout the marketing
book.
Billy has taken on a life of his own. His curiosity about the world he lives in
and what his future may hold demanded he ask the all important question that
started it all:
“Mommy, where do customers come from?” This simple question,
asked by a simple boy set pen to paper to provide the answer for all to read.
Billy made his first appearance in a piece of sales literature for the
Internet marketing company Single Throw. This
piece of literature was actually a coloring book that told the story of an
inquisitive boy with a burning question. Throughout the pages of the coloring
book, Billy is guided by his parents as they teach him the finer points of where
customers come from.
Billy’s creator and
Single Throw CEO Larry Bailin first came up with the concept
of creating a coloring book as corporate literature out of his distaste of
marketing brochures. Larry had a need to tell the Internet marketing company’s
story in a simple, easy to understand, fun and memorable way.
It was a sunny day in New Jersey and Larry was in the car on the way back to the
office from an appointment, “I need something that is as easy to understand as a
children’s book” said Larry. He then thought, “why not a children’s book?”,
“Even better, a coloring book!” It was on this day in 2004 that Billy was born
and the words that started it all were first uttered, “Mommy, where do customers
come from?”
Billy is now the inquisitive figure head for the marketing book and even has his
own
charitable giving campaign. He really
has come a long way from his humble beginnings as a coloring book character that
came with four little crayons.
